  • Lucas passion in distilling started at an early age, only 18 years old he found a still at a local garage sale for $20. It was his hobby that soon would turn into his career.

    In 2013 Lucas went on to do an unpaid internship swapping labour for knowledge and gin - at a friends distillery, where he was able to better hone his craft and love for producing quality spirits.

    In 2014 he moved to Cooma where he ran the local pub and opened Catcher & Co. this turned out to be quite popular with the locals and passers through, though not enough to gain real traction in the industry. Lucas had a bigger dream to grow and one day become a house hold name in Australian Spirits.

    In 2018 Lucas decided to move up to Newcastle to be closer with his family and roots, rebranding the business to Newcastle Distilling Company. While working on establishing and growing his new distillery, Lucas worked as an Operations Manager at a one of the local breweries - building up his business in the shared space next door. All the hours and lack of sleep paid off as just in just one year Lucas left the brewery and started working full time on growing Newcastle Distilling Company.

    2020 marked 20 years of Lucas’ distilling experience and to celebrate this milestone - the opening of The Newcastle Distilling Co. Venue and Cellar Door in Pokolbin was well received by locals. In 2022 he opened Warners Bay bottle shop and micro brewing experimentation lab.

    The next milestone is the launch of Newcastle Brewing & Distilling Company beers with a move to a larger facility in Wickham. This will be open to the public mid 2023.
